Global Coalition partners work around the world to find and
publicise solutions that work for women and girls. Some initiatives
take place at regional level, some are national in focus -
others take place within the local community.
The Coalition also focuses on raising awareness of the different
ways the epidemic affects women in different locations, bringing
women from different countries together to share experiences.
The aim: to deepen understanding and catalyze changes that
make the AIDS response work better for women and girls.
That's why, in spring 2005, the UNAIDS-led Global Coalition
on Women and AIDS organised its first Women and AIDS Tour
of five East-Coast US cities. The tour brought a group of
women living with HIV in different parts of the world to meet
with policy makers and local communities. The aim: to draw
attention to the epidemic's impact on women and girls worldwide,
and to highlight activities that help women and girls live
healthy lives in a world with AIDS.
In early 2006, a Frontline Africa Tour will take senior U.S.
congressional staff to see a range of successful women and
AIDS programmes in Kenya and Zambia. In mid-April, the second
Women and AIDS Tour will bring four dynamic HIV+ women from
around the globe to deliver key advocacy messages in four
Midwestern U.S. cities.
