STATEMENT
OF SUPPORT
I support the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS in calling on leaders worldwide to massively scale up AIDS responses for women and girls, and urge them to adopt the
the Global Coalition’s Agenda for Action on Women and AIDS.
At a minimum, this means:
- Investing more money in AIDS programmes that benefit women
- Making women’s rights a reality
- Allocating more seats at the table to women (particularly women living with HIV) when AIDS programmes are designed, implemented and assessed.

Signing the statement of support is a great first step, but there are many other ways to make a difference in the AIDS response. Raise awareness!
In your community
- Alert friends, family and colleagues to the extent of the female AIDS epidemic - many people still don’t know that half the adults living with HIV today worldwide are female
- Organize or attend an event to raise awareness about AIDS and its impact on millions of women and girls on World AIDS Day (1 December), International Women’s Day (8 March), Mother’s Day
- Help people understand why AIDS has such a devastating impact on women and girls – why it is often hard for them to protect themselves from infection and why they frequently find it difficult to obtain treatment , care and support: direct them to the Global Coalition’s website
- Discourage stigma (remember, HIV doesn’t discriminate - people do), encourage better workplace and community support for people living with HIV
Among leaders
- Tell politicians, religious leaders, corporate managers, community leaders about the Global Coalition’s Agenda for Action on Women and AIDS. Make a call, write a letter, send an email, go to a meeting.
Give time or money
- Give your time to a group or programme that helps women and girls who are affected by HIV and AIDS.
- Donate mone y to an organization that is working at home or abroad to reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS on girls and women.
